Tears as Nkumba University Students pay last respect to colleague killed in gruesome accident

It was a somber mood as students of Nkumba University on Tuesday, 12th March gathered to pay their last respect to their colleague Lang Gatot, a third year student pursuing Degree in Petroleum Engineering who passed on Friday, 8th March after he was knocked by an unidentified motorist. The incidence happened on 8th, March at 23:00 pm according to eyewitnesses.

A requime mass was organised at St Jude Catholic church in Abaita Ababiri for the university community to pay it’s last respect to the deceased.

The late was described by many as a kind and humble person who loved all regardless of differences.

The deceased’s body is in transit to South Sudan for burial.

Postmortem report indicates he died due to multiple injuries he sustained in the accident.

The police asked for more time to identify the car that could have knocked the late as they are still previewing the CCTV footage.

Details of the accident still remain scanty.

The deceased was reportedly on his way back to his hostel of residence after visiting a friend when he mate his death.

The deceased will be laid to rest tomorrow 13th March at his ancestral home in South Sudan.

Protests

The Police on 9th, March fired teargas and live bullets to disperse a group students led by the Guild President H.E Young Boniface and Guild presidential aspirant who is the also the current Guild Speaker Rt. Hon Agaba Darius as they held a peaceful demonstration demanding for a flyover for easy and safe crossing of Entebbe Kampala Expressway, Nkumba junction for students and other pedestrians.

Many students of the university live across the four-lane highway that does not have any road-sign to help pedestrians safely cross it.

The authorities have since promised to put in place measures for pedestrians to safely cross the highway at Nkumba junction.

Series of deaths

This is third incidence a students of the university passes-on in a period of two weeks.

Unconfirmed reports revealed that another student of the university was killed in another asked in Soroti town where he works.

On a third year student of Procurement and Logistics management was found dead in his room. He was stabbed on the chest by unknown assailants.

Unresolved cases

In the two incidents of murder, the police are yet to arrest a single suspect.
